November Week 4 Reflection – Saif

Saif's November Week 4 Reflection

What have you observed in others (e.g., team members, supervisors) that inspired you or taught you something new? How will you apply it in your daily life?

My group for the nationwide volunteering task was determined and hardworking, tackling this overwhelming assignment by the horns despite not knowing where to start. This inspired me to do the same as originally, I was lost, I had no idea where, or how to start and was stressed. Groupmates such as Anita, Hudson, Aliya, and Erin began working and I followed which got me on pace to now work on it independently and know exactly what I’m doing, when I’m doing it, and how I will go about it.

If we did not have Mojo as our mascot, what character (fictional or realistic) would be a good fit to be our U+ mascot? Why?

I think a great representation of the U-Plus company would be a giraffe. Giraffes are primarily orange/beige with spots of black. Orange and beige are brighter, yet warm colors, perfect for a welcoming and comforting feel. Giraffes are oftentimes among the favorite animals of young kids because of their height and other extraordinary features. Because of these reasons, I believe a giraffe would be an excellent pick as a replacement for U-Plus’ mascot.

What is a surprising or unexpected thing you have learned about yourself during your placement so far? What will you do with this knowledge?

I found out I really don’t enjoy working virtually. I tend to get distracted and can’t focus unless I keep my phone in a different room which is what I’ve been doing. I always thought I was decent at avoiding distractions whilst working but I’ve learned otherwise. Fortunately, this is slowly improving throughout my co-op journey.

If your current co-op position was not available during applications but you had to commit to U+, what role would you have selected? How do you think that experience would contribute to your personal and professional growth?

I would definitely have committed to being a web developer assistant. I have recently been taking interest in python and other programming languages and I strongly believe that taking on a web developer position would assist me in refining my coding skills, and my coding skills would help me perform well as a web developer.
