Erin's November Week 2 Reflection
Reflect on the responsibilities you’ve taken on so far at U+, what project(s) are you most proud of and why?
The responsibilities I have taken at U+ include conducting research, presenting progress, creating videos with a group, sending out weekly engagement trackers, uploading programs, and currently creating promotional flyers. The project I am most proud of is my testimonial. I was able to spend time reflecting on my co-op journey and incorporate my experience within the making of the video. Through trying out different effects and designs, I was able to come out with fluency in my video, and was set as an example for my coworkers!
Think back to the goals you set for yourself near the beginning of your co-op term. What steps have you taken to achieve these goals? (if you haven’t started yet, what steps are you going to take?)
Some goals I have set for myself are to step out of my comfort zone and try leadership in any situation possible. Steps I have taken to achieve these goals would be through group work. I have initiated to begin a group chat, arrange meetings, and suggest some ideas first. In that way, I can also practice my organization and planning skills by trying to create an outline for the group. Not only that, I believe it is through their participation and sharing as well that contributed to such a great outcome! Therefore, I would say my step to initiate led me closer to fulfilling my goal of leadership within a group setting!
What’s an unexpected skill you developed over the work term so far and how do you envision this bringing a positive change to your career?
An unexpected skill I developed over the work term would be editing. Since as a marketing assistant, it requires a lot of filming and editing, this skill essentially became a part of my daily work. I do not often have the opportunity to edit videos but it is through these assigned projects where I was able to put in full effort toward editing, hence improving that skill a lot. I envision this bringing a positive change to my career as editing and trying out different techniques could be really helpful in marketing or the business field. Having strong editing skills can advertise or enhance my design skills more, which in marketing, can capture a bigger audience in the future.
If you could change one thing about your working environment, what would it be and how would it positively impact the quality of your work?
If I could change one thing, I would prefer having less online working as it could be tiring to be on screen for a long period of time. I would like to try some hands-on activities like physical designing or art related to have a balance between the two so my eyes would not be so tired facing a computer! I believe having a balance between hands-on and online work will positively impact the quality of my work because of alternating different types of work environments, hence trying out new skills/possibilities in work. It will also limit distractions and allow rest from time to time!
