November Week 2 Reflection – Vanessa

Vanessa's November Week 2 Reflection

Reflect on the responsibilities you’ve taken on so far at U+, what project(s) are you most proud of and why?

During my time at U+ Education, I have taken on a few of the responsibilities of keeping myself accountable for the work that I am in charge of doing as well as making sure that my group is understanding what is at task. As my co-op supervisor has said, I have become a mini leader in the sense that I have been making sure that everyone’s work is organized and in order. I am always open for anyone in my group to ask me any questions they may have in understanding the task at hand. I am most proud of this since this has helped me developed my leadership skill set since I have had to adjust to people’s understanding and abilities which will help me in the future.

Think back to the goals you set for yourself near the beginning of your co-op term. What steps have you taken to achieve these goals? (if you haven’t started yet, what steps are you going to take?)

A few of the goals that I had for myself near the beginning of my co-op term were to gain experience in this work field and to gain collaboration experience when working with others. Some of the steps that I have taken to achieve these goals are by working collaboratively with my group in making sure that I am working in the best abilities of my peers since this will be vital outside of the placement. With gaining experience, I have been able to evolve those skills that will be important in the future such as initiative and responsibility.

What’s an unexpected skill you developed over the work term so far and how do you envision this bringing a positive change to your career?

An unexpected skill that I have developed over the work term so far is balancing my work load and understanding how to delegate deadlines and work around them. This will bring a positive change in my career as I will know how to prioritize certain work tasks and know which ones are the first priority for me to do. As well as understanding and being able to balance my work, this is also a skill that will be heavily used outside of this placement as I will need to balance my work effectively.

If you could change one thing about your working environment, what would it be and how would it positively impact the quality of your work?

One thing that I would change about my work environment is by working in a quiet and secluded space as since coming right after school, it is often that I am working in a library and it sometimes becomes slightly noisy disrupting my work focus. This is something that I am trying to adjust to since I am very busy before and after school, it is sometimes hard to find that quiet space without any distractions. This change could impact the quality of my work as I would be more focused overall.
