November Week 1 Reflection – Tina Wei

Tina's November Week 1 Reflection

Reflect on your tasks this week. What was the most frustrating and fulfilling part of it? Briefly discuss how steps can be taken to improve workflow and team communication.

Thinking back on my week one moment I found most frustrating would be on Friday when I couldn’t figure out what certain instructions meant and had difficulty receiving clear directions. I talked to my co-worker who was also working on the same task and asked my supervisors as well. Through that, I was able to sort of guess or infer what the instructions wanted me to do and when I finally got the hang of it I would say that was the most fulfilling part. Coming to a conclusion after taking the steps to communicate my confusion and being able to complete my assigned task. I think to improve on this it would have been much easier if I had more context as to what I needed to do or if the original message had a format closer to steps for me to follow.

How do you stay inspired and motivated in your work, even on challenging days? In what ways does U+ support you during those challenging times?

One big thing that helps me stay motivated and inspired is remembering to take breaks and keeping track of what tasks I need to finish or continue working on. Those are things I do during those breaks so I guess it’s not exactly a break but it gives my brain some time to focus a little less before getting back into work. I keep track of my tasks through my laptop’s task manager and Slack’s save for later features. Doing this makes it easier to remember what I need to complete and stay on track. As for what U+ does to support me I would have to include Slack as part of it since it’s our main communication app and helps me stay in touch with my supervisors and co-workers. U+ also allows us to take breaks when we need it and if we ever feel unwell to inform our supervisor and get advice, to either take a break or rest.

What are some skills or “hidden talents” you have that could spark something new in our work if we tapped into them?

A hidden skill I think could be utilized at U+ would be by ability to draw, I think it would be great if I had the opportunity to work on more artistic projects that involve art in some way. I have some previous experience with helping kids with art projects and teaching kids different skills such as origami. I would love the chance to continue and gain more experience in this field and think it would be helpful to U+ as well.

If you could collaborate with anyone in the company, who would it be and why?

If I had to pick someone to work with I would choose to work with Jessica Zou. Jessica has been helpful and cooperative from the first time I met her. She has been a great help, answering my questions, giving advice is always accommodating towards any issues that occur during a task. Whenever I am looking for more tasks Jessica is the one I go to. She continues to be a positive influence towards me and my fellow co-op students and I am super grateful to be able to work with someone as friendly as Jessica.
