November Week 1 Reflection – Matthew Lee

Matthew's November Week 1 Reflection

Reflect on your tasks this week. What was the most frustrating and fulfilling part of it? Briefly discuss how steps can be taken to improve workflow and team communication.

This week, the most fulfilling part of my tasks was making progress on the sponsorship brochure project. It felt rewarding to see the pieces come together and contribute to something that can benefit our team’s outreach. The most frustrating part, however, was dealing with explaining my team’s parts/roles (I’m leading a project) which slowed down the overall pace of the project. To improve workflow and team communication, we could set up brief, scheduled check-ins specifically for updates on ongoing projects, ensuring everyone stays aligned and any blockers can be addressed sooner.

How do you stay inspired and motivated in your work, even on challenging days? In what ways does U+ support you during those challenging times?

Staying motivated in an accounting assistant role, even on challenging days, comes from focusing on the bigger picture and the value of the work, like contributing to the organization’s financial health and supporting decision-making. U+ supports this motivation through regular check-ins with supervisors, where goals, tasks, and any challenges are discussed, which helps provide clear direction and resolve issues early. Collaborative team meetings and an open communication culture foster a supportive environment, making it easier to handle challenges together. Additionally, having access to resources like SOPs, training videos, and tools like QuickBooks Online ensures that even complex tasks feel manageable and achievable.

What are some skills or “hidden talents” you have that could spark something new in our work if we tapped into them?

My skills from volleyball, like teamwork, quick decision-making, and adaptability, could strengthen collaboration on our team. Playing FPS games has sharpened my attention to detail and analytical thinking, which can help with problem-solving. Plus, my interest in webtoons has given me a creative edge that could make presentations more engaging. These hidden talents could add fresh perspectives and innovative ideas to our projects.

If you could collaborate with anyone in the company, who would it be and why?

I would choose to collaborate with Aryan, as I’ve already worked with him before. Our previous collaboration went smoothly, and I found his approach to tasks efficient and helpful. Working together again would allow us to build on that experience, improve our communication, and tackle more complex projects with a solid understanding of each other’s strengths.
