December Week 2 Reflection – Mayuresan

mayuresan's December Week 2 Reflection

Describe a challenge you have faced in a project thus far. How did you overcome it?

A challenge I have faced in a project thus far would be creating lesson slideshows from scratch for our 2025 Summer Camp with YRES. As I was working on creating a lesson slideshow for our Junior campers based on a few worksheets that I helped edit as well, I was having trouble creating the slideshow with nothing but just previous slideshow material that lacked cohesion and structure. I was able to thankfully overcome this challenge as Tanya later provided me with a template to use as a guide and some rules to follow, which helped my creative process immensely.

At U+, we advocate for lifelong learning and professional development through experiences. Describe a time where you were pushed out of your comfort zone during your placement and what you have learned from the experience.

A time where I was pushed out of my comfort zone during my placement would be when I was invited to one of Kevin’s team meetings to speak as a Guest Speaker on my experiences as a Teaching Assistant and as a volunteer at our 2024 Summer Camp. I founded it intimidating at first, having to speak to people I didn’t really know and also speaking for around 5-10 minutes, but as I went through the presentation, I was able to avoid speaking directly off the slides and instead just spoke from my personal experiences which allowed me to describe my experiences as authentically as possible. Through this experience, I have learned how to communicate my ideas and experiences in a clear, professional manner while also being able to ensure I do not feel intimidated or challenged by this.

What application or website do you use the most on a regular basis during your shift (e.g., Slack, Google search engine, monday.com)? What do you use it for?

During my shift, I mostly use Canva and Slack on a regular basis. Slack is what I primarily use to communicate project updates, questions, and any other important information to my supervisor Tanya. I use Canva to make edits to our 2025 Summer Camp workbooks, design LEGO Robotics slideshows, and lesson slides for our 2025 Summer Camp.

If you had to choose an animal (real or fictional) to describe your working style, what would it be and why?

If I had to choose an animal to describe my working style, it would be a beaver. Beavers are known to be impeccably organized and structured, persistence, and practicality. Similarly, I have been finding ways to ensure my work is organized and cohesive, while also striving to remain as efficient and productive as possible. To save time and to ensure practicality, this may include consistent communication with supervisors and use of templates and resources wherever available.
