Students to Marketing – Week 10: Navigating Work, Wit, and the All-Hands-On-Deck Project at U+

Welcome back to another insightful week in the world of high school co-op at U+! Ambika Singh and Maria Poulimenos share their experiences, challenges, and valuable lessons learned as they contribute to U+’s goals and objectives.

Significant Tasks: Leading the Charge in All-Hands-On-Deck Project

Ambika Singh:

“The most significant task I have been working on is the all-hands-on-deck project #4 since I got the opportunity to lead the project. This project is significant to U+ goals and objectives as it requires the high school co-op students to create stories for U+ reading clubs.”

Maria Poulimenos:

“The most significant tasks I worked on included the YRES Instagram posts for this week. These posts were geared towards the STEAM program and helped to inform YRES supporters of our classes. This aligns with the goals at U+ as it helps to promote the educational side of YRES in order to enhance the education of the York Region.”

Challenges: Balancing Work and Time Off

Ambika Singh:

“A challenge that I have encountered was that I had to take time off so trying to answer project-related questions was difficult since it was my time off, but I did want to answer their questions as best as possible.”

Maria Poulimenos:

“A challenge I faced this week was time management. I had multiple projects to complete under a certain time frame and felt a bit overwhelmed. Therefore, I set out a schedule for myself and aimed to complete the given tasks on certain days.”

Skills Utilized: Communication and Leadership Taking Center Stage

Ambika Singh:

“Communication and leadership skills were utilized this week, as I had to give feedback/suggestions and answer questions from my peers. These skills align with my future career aspirations because I wish to have either a manager position or just any leadership position that will require communication and leadership skills.”

Maria Poulimenos:

“This week I have furthered my communication skills. This is an essential trait, especially in the marketing world, for it can help to solve any issues. I will consistently work on bettering this skill of mine to effectively communicate with my fellow colleagues in hopes of creating a healthy work environment.”

Standout Interactions: Seeking Help and Building Relationships

Ambika Singh:

“The interaction with Carey was helpful because I had to take time off and I had many questions that needed to be answered, and he was very kind and answered promptly which was very much appreciated.”

Maria Poulimenos:

“This week I was able to conduct a meeting with two other colleagues of mine regarding the Pinterest accounts. This meeting allowed us to open up and engage in witty conversation. We were able to further our work relationships and learn the process of creation for one another.”

Insights and Lessons: Independence and Seeking Guidance

Ambika Singh:

“Some insights that I have gained this week were that you should ask your supervisor questions but still be independent. You shouldn’t be dependent on your supervisor or anyone, but still seek help when really needed.”

Maria Poulimenos:

“I have learned to reach out for guidance if I am ever in need. I constantly hesitate to do so as I feel as though I will bother others; however, this initiative allows for better workflow to be produced.”

As the high school co-op journey continues at U+, Ambika and Maria showcase the importance of effective communication, leadership, and the balance between independence and seeking guidance.

Stay tuned for more exciting updates as our co-op students navigate the professional waters at U+!
