Social Media Marketing Tips

In today’s day and age, it is hard to argue that anything is more powerful than social media in terms of marketing and drawing in a customer base.

Social media is an incredibly useful marketing tool as it is able to reach mass amounts of people in a short period of time. With the help of social media, your business will be able to reach out to a global audience and attract potential customers from all over the world.

But with the accessibility and convenience of social media comes new problems. As businesses worldwide work to promote themselves online, it can become easy for your company’s marketing to get lost among the online traffic.

So how can you make your social media marketing stand out from the crowd and reach the customer base you want?

Three of the members of our U+ marketing team: Savina, Tiffany, and Xavier, were happy to provide what they consider to be the top 7 most essential tips for anyone looking to use social media as a marketing tool.

1. Keep Your Branding In Mind At All Times

Branding should be one of the main focuses of your social media strategy. Company branding and image should stay consistent across all marketing platforms, and should coincide with your company’s mission statement.

You can make sure you remain consistent with your branding in many ways, such as: using the profile picture on all platforms for easy recognition, using the same username on all platforms to make finding your business easy, developing a brand voice that is seen in the way posts are written and shared, and keeping a familiar colour scheme that is a part of your company’s brand image.

Potential and returning consumer’s perception of your company’s image is incredibly important! It becomes easier to spread your message when you present a cohesive, professional, and organized look, as it builds trust with interested consumers.

2. Jot Down All Ideas That You Have

Always remember to jot down any idea that comes to you, otherwise you may lose that idea forever. Sometimes a good idea can pop up out of nowhere, so always carry something with you, either a phone or a notebook, in which to record your ideas.

Brainstorming is important! Sometimes, even if the original idea doesn’t work, it can be the starting point for the idea that will become the final project.

It is always better to record any thoughts you have, as taking an extra minute to write down something you later decide not to use will be much less frustrating then forgetting a good idea and regretting not recording it later down the line.

3. Know Your Audience

A big part of social media marketing is knowing who you are marketing to. Before doing any social media marketing, sit down and establish who it is your business is marketing to, and what kind of marketing appeals to that person.

Understanding who your audience is and who you want to reach makes creating content that works much easier! When you know your client profile, you are able to connect with them in ways that you may have been failing before.

This is also applicable to individual social media platforms. For example, an audience on Facebook is often much different than an audience on TikTok. Make sure to know what demographic makes up the majority of each social media platform’s users, and use that knowledge to create content for the people who will see it.

4. Use SEO

SEO, otherwise known as search engine optimization, is essential in successful online marketing. SEO is responsible for improving your marketing’s online traffic and is the science behind getting posts to appear more often on feeds, or getting pages ranked higher on search engines.

There are many online tools that can be used free of charge to help with your company’s SEO, so it is immensely important that you take advantage of these tools to improve your SEO through things like key words, sentence structure, or any other adjustments that will increase the traffic your content sees.

5. Everything Should Have A Purpose

More content doesn’t always mean better content. People will often respond better to authenticity and well-thought out content, as opposed to content that feels insincere and rushed. While it is important to maintain a social media posting schedule, don’t over exert yourself with the amount of posts you need to make.

It is not necessary to post for the sake of posting. All of your content should have some purpose and part to play in your overall messaging and marketing.

6. Have Fun With Your Content

While every post should have purpose, at the same time it is important to be able to have fun with your content! Posting the same style of content repetitively becomes boring for both you, and your audience.

It is okay to be creative and take risks with content, as long as it still aligns with your company’s brand image. Enjoying creating your content and coming up with new ideas will make everything much more interesting and engaging for your customer audience!

7. Stay Connected

Social media relies on the ability people have to repost, share, comment, and like different content. As a social media account, your company should also work to stay connected to the people they are trying to reach.

If someone posts about your business in a positive way, make sure to repost that on your own page! Share testimonials or images from satisfied customers and form a network of connections, as this network will connect you to others in a client’s network as well.

Along with all of this, staying connected means being aware of what happens around you on the internet. Join in with trends and find ways to become involved in what is trending and popular at all points in time.
