Hudson's October Week 4 Reflection
What are your main tasks for this week, and how do you envision these tasks contributing to the company’s success and growth?
My main tasks this week have been collecting mayor & councillor contacts and cold calling storage units. I’ve been working alongside Anita DIng and Erin Margareth Lalongisip on collecting these contacts for the National Virtual Volunteering Campaign Set Up, where we believe that it’ll allow the company to conduct outreach promotions of virtual volunteering programs at a large, national scale while being efficiently automated. Same thing with last week, I’ve been calling storage units to create a direct line of communication in hopes of securing a partnership with a storage unit, which would be helpful for YRES’s camp programs.
At U+, communication is a big key to teamwork, collaboration, and success. What steps have you taken to maintain open communication with your coworkers?
What I’ve done is that I don’t just use the daily actions to highlight what I’ve done. Every now and then, I’ll be asking questions or stating what task I’m completing to highlight that I’m being productive and open to discussing concerns I have. I also try to be direct of the concerns that I express, whether it’s directly telling someone to do something (i.e. I assigned responsibilities for the Business Team to create a slideshow) or asking a question.
If you were designing a remote work “survival kit,” what are three things you’d must have to help you succeed?
Assuming that I have the expected needs in my remote work environment (e.g. a computer, paper & pen, a chair and a light), I’d bring noise cancelling headphones, packs of healthy snacks & energy bars, and an iPad. Noise cancelling headphones would be my top thing to close myself off from distracting background noise and allow me to play music that helps me focus. I’d also want healthy snacks & energy bars packed up with me so that I can start eating as soon as I’m hungry while gaining an energy boost. I’d finally have an iPad always with me to act as a second monitor, displaying other tasks I’m going to work on and notifications.
What achievements are you proud of this week? What resources or people were there to support you while reaching your goals?
An achievement I’m proud of is the amount of mayor & councillor contacts I was able to list. There was one day where I was able to list well over 100 contacts in a shift where, with the help of using my iPad as a second monitor, I was able to list them down extremely quickly. I’d use the iPad to search for a municipality’s city council page on their website, writing down the names of the council members while scrolling through. I also had the support of Anita Ding and Kevin Lin who gave me clear guidance on the information I needed to compile (i.e. what district/ward the listed councillor(s) oversee) and answered any of my questions efficiently!
