Erin's October Week 4 Reflection
What are your main tasks for this week, and how do you envision these tasks contributing to the company’s success and growth?
My main tasks for this week were to create a testimonial video about my co-op experience at U+ Education. I filmed a lot of clips talking about my expectations, what I learned, some questions I had coming in, and skills I obtained throughout the months. This task can highly contribute to the company’s growth because with all of these co-op testimonials, more people can get a glimpse on what the co-op work environment is like, allowing a potential increase in co-ops joining the team. Moreover, the videos can be useful feedback toward U+ where they can know too, what co-ops feel working here and what aspects/goals they would like to achieve through this placement. In that way, U+ can grow to more recognition and improvements through testimonials from different co-op’s perspectives.
At U+, communication is a big key to teamwork, collaboration, and success. What steps have you taken to maintain open communication with your coworkers?
As communication becomes the only way I can reach out for help and collaborate in an online work environment, I took a lot of initiative in order for successful communication to happen. Since I am currently working on a marketing project with a few of my co-workers, I started by reaching out to the team so they know about this group project, what video we are going to make, and some ideas I currently have and which they can further add onto. In that way, we together can assist one another in this project knowing that it is a group effort! So maintaining open communication truly begins from someone initiating I guess!
If you were designing a remote work “survival kit,” what are three things you’d must have to help you succeed?
To succeed in an online work environment, I would suggest getting rid of any distractions, setting up priorities, and effective communication whenever needed. Distractions can be the biggest reason work cannot get done. It is normal sometimes, to wander off to something else. However, it is because of these where it results in a lot of rushing work, missing due dates, and poor performances. By getting rid of all sorts of distractions, it will ensure a productive work shift where tasks can be completed much faster. As to setting up priorities, it is an essential skill to have a to-do list or knowing what tasks come before what. Working online, it is even better! With the different tools, calendar, online sticky notes, it is much easier to remain on task and following due dates. It is an important work ethic I learned that by being organized and acknowledging deadlines, work can be done in a productive manner. Lastly, effective communication is key working online. It is a way for others to know what you are doing, what you need help with, or if things are going well. It would be hard for others to know if you don’t understand or need help if you don’t initiate or effectively communicate your needs so it is an important part of remote work!
What achievements are you proud of this week? What resources or people were there to support you while reaching your goals?
My biggest achievement would be again, the testimonial video. Since I took a few shifts to have all of my ideas sorted out and filmed, I received a lot of encouraging comments about it where it also became an example for other co-ops! I am grateful that my effort put into filming and editing resulted in a great outcome where I am able to communicate my co-op experience well and in a creative way. Resources that helped me would definitely be Tiktok for ideas, and the experience/support I received in this placement which allowed me to talk about it detailly in my video. Overall, I hope to continue putting in more and more effort into my upcoming projects and achieve greater things in the upcoming months!
