Evelyn's October Week 3 Reflection

Describe your main tasks this week. How did you approach the task? What did you accomplish? What did you learn?
This week, my main task involved troubleshooting issues with my laptop. I approached this by systematically identifying the problems, starting with basic checks for the password sign in, and how to bypass it. When those didn’t resolve the problems, I documented the errors and reached out to Tanya for support. Through this process, I learned how to effectively communicate technical issues and gained a deeper understanding of common troubleshooting techniques. Ultimately, I successfully resolved the laptop issues and received a new device, which improved my workflow and productivity significantly. This experience also underscored the importance of resourcefulness and collaboration in a remote work setting.
What strategies do you have for staying on track during work and avoiding distractions when working in a virtual environment? What advice do you have for future co-ops?
To stay on track in a virtual environment, I employ several strategies. First, I create a dedicated workspace that minimizes distractions and signals to myself that it’s time to focus. I also use a digital planner to outline daily tasks and set specific goals, which helps me prioritize my workload.
To avoid distractions, I utilize techniques like the Pomodoro Technique, working in focused bursts followed by short breaks. For future co-ops, I recommend establishing a routine, maintaining open communication with your team, and taking regular breaks to recharge. These practices can enhance productivity and make the virtual work experience more enjoyable and effective.
How do you measure success in the workplace? What are some standards you have set and feedback you’ve gotten from teachers, supervisors, and coworkers that help guide you?
I measure success in the workplace through a combination of personal goals, feedback, and the impact of my contributions. Key standards I’ve set include meeting deadlines, actively participating in team discussions, and continuously improving my skills. Feedback from supervisors has emphasized the importance of clear communication and collaboration, guiding me to be more proactive in seeking input and sharing ideas. Teachers have highlighted the value of adaptability and resilience, which I apply when facing challenges. Overall, I view success as a balance between achieving personal objectives and contributing positively to the team’s goals.
What soft/hard skills do you feel most confident in, and where do you still need improvement?
I feel most confident in my communication and teamwork skills, which help me collaborate effectively with colleagues and share ideas clearly. Additionally, I have a solid foundation in analytical thinking, allowing me to approach problems methodically. However, I see room for improvement in my technical skills, particularly in specific software and tools relevant to my role. I aim to deepen my proficiency in these areas through hands-on experience and training. By focusing on both strengthening my existing skills and enhancing my technical abilities, I can become a more well-rounded contributor to the team.
