Aruran's October Week 3 Reflection
Describe your main tasks this week. How did you approach the task? What did you accomplish? What did you learn?
My main task this week was to set up the meeting minutes with Kevin. I wasn’t sure what meeting minutes meant, and was really confused on what I was supposed to do. I decided to ask Kevin, but he was busy at the time, so I joined the coffee chat with ZhenYan and she walked me through the steps. She helped me very much and I doubt I would have been able to complete the task without her. I learned that I need to be able to ask for help with the staff if I want to be able to complete my tasks.
What strategies do you have for staying on track during work and avoiding distractions when working in a virtual environment? What advice do you have for future co-ops?
I am lucky because I am close with my ComTech teachers, and one of them have no classes during the first two periods so he lets me do my co-op work at his class under his supervision. However, an easy distraction is my phone and what I do to avoid distractions is putting my phone on mute and behind my laptop so it is not in my peripheral vision. That would be my advice to future co-op students.
How do you measure success in the workplace? What are some standards you have set and feedback you’ve gotten from teachers, supervisors, and coworkers that help guide you?
I measure success by completing whatever task I have at hand or at least working at it. I standard I have set is not to procrastinate because what I have noticed is that procrastinating does not do anything positive, rather it just tends to make things more stressful as tasks and assignments start to pile up.
What soft/hard skills do you feel most confident in, and where do you still need improvement?
A skill I most confident in is time management, as I always write down whatever tasks and important meetings. Something I need improve is communication because I tend to get stuck with certain tasks and would need help, however I get scared to ask because I am not very good at communicating. That is one thing I hope to improve.
