Ibrahim's October Week 1 Reflection

Please share how you feel about the onboarding process. What are some resources that were helpful, and what’s something you’d like to see implemented in the future?
This week’s onboarding process went pretty smoothly. I found the handover documents and the onboarding quiz to be really helpful, especially when understanding the company’s marketing strategies. The YouTube planner and guidelines also gave me clear steps on how to approach video projects. In the future, I think it would be useful to have a short tutorial video on how to use the editing software we’re expected to use, just to make the process faster. Overall, the training was good, but some more interactive resources could help make things even clearer for new team members.
Describe your main tasks this week. Who did you work with? How did you approach the task? What did you accomplish?
This week, my main tasks involved editing and preparing a marketing video for U+ Education’s YouTube channel. I worked closely with my supervisor to make sure the content aligned with the company’s goals and branding. I approached the task by first reviewing the raw footage, organizing it, and then using video editing software to cut the clips and add transitions. By the end of the week, I successfully completed a rough draft of the video, which I submitted for feedback. It was a productive week where I gained hands-on experience with video editing and project management.
What is one big challenge you faced this week? Who did you turn to when you needed support? Describe what you learned and what you would do differently the next time.
One of the biggest challenges I faced this week was learning how to use the new video editing software. It was my first time using this program, and I struggled with figuring out all the tools and shortcuts. When I felt stuck, I turned to my supervisor for guidance, and they walked me through some of the basics. I also found online tutorials to be helpful. I learned that it’s okay to ask for help early on instead of waiting until I’m overwhelmed. Next time, I’ll practice with the software before starting a big project to avoid delays.
What are three main skills U+/YRES allowed you to leverage/develop this week? Reflect on how each skill brings value to your professional development and propels you forward in the industry.
This week, I developed three key skills: video editing, communication, and time management. Video editing allowed me to create content that supports U+ Education’s marketing efforts, giving me a technical skill that’s valuable in today’s media-driven world. Communication was crucial, as I needed to work closely with my supervisor to ensure the content met expectations. Finally, time management helped me balance different tasks and meet deadlines, which is essential in any professional setting. Each of these skills is helping me grow in the marketing industry by making me more efficient and adaptable.
What personal motto or guiding principle would you bring with you to your role next week, and how do you see it helping you contribute to our organization’s mission?
The guiding principle I will bring with me next week is “learn by doing.” This motto reminds me to embrace every task as a learning opportunity, even if it’s something I’ve never done before. By actively taking on challenges and being open to feedback, I’ll be able to improve my skills and contribute more effectively to U+ Education’s mission of providing innovative educational solutions. I believe this approach will help me stay focused, learn faster, and ultimately contribute more meaningfully to the team’s success in our marketing initiatives.
