Please share how you feel about the onboarding process. What are some resources that were helpful, and what’s something you’d like to see implemented in the future?

All the onboarding and training activities went well. I was involved in transferring the information on google slides to Canva and changed background profile pictures in the brochure using Canva which gave me a professional feel to the materials. Company’s onboarding site, online tutorials, and team discussions were other useful sources which clarified the processes to me. If any improvements are to be made in the future I would recommend adding more tasks that involve interactivity such as creating virtual content workshops and to establish a clear list with one or more checklists that allow tracking the statuses in virtual onboarding.


Describe your main tasks this week. Who did you work with? How did you approach the task? What did you accomplish?

This week, I managed to work on copying information from Google Slides to Canva and also changing background profile pictures in a brochure. Kevin Lin assisted me during the completion of the project by offering his opinion occasionally. To accomplish the task, I started by structuring the content from Google Slides and then used the Canva app to make a visually appealing layout. For the brochure, I made efforts to change profile pictures in order to make the general theme of the background Uplus Education for all members. At the end of the week, I managed to achieve these two objectives enhancing the presentation and professionalism of the content. 


What is one big challenge you faced this week? Who did you turn to when you needed support? Describe what you learned and what you would do differently the next time.

One problem I encountered during the week was to make sure that the design was consistent as I moved information from Google Slides to Canva. The different layouts prevented consistency in the style. I asked Kevin for help, and he said to use a template from Canva since it would help me save time. This taught me that templates can help one save time and ensure that all slides are kept to a similar aesthetic. Next time, I should be more careful selecting the templates and pick those that are related to the project theme at least at the beginning of the designing process. This would make the transfer process much easier and would also allow consistency to be maintained in the design.


What are three main skills U+/YRES allowed you to leverage/develop this week? Reflect on how each skill brings value to your professional development and propels you forward in the industry.

During this week, I was able to learn several skills that can be useful in my career goal or personal development at U+. First, I developed my design skills in using Canva by creating content that is visually appealing. Second, working with my supervisor helped me develop teamwork skills since I had to discuss and get feedback from my supervisor from time to time. Last but not the least the handling of multiple activities such as transferring information and updating the design helped me in getting better in time management. Time management skills to ensure that I am able to submit work within the required time is very important especially when working in a competitive organization.


What personal motto or guiding principle would you bring with you to your role next week, and how do you see it helping you contribute to our organization’s mission?

Next week, I would like to adopt the motto “We grow best collaborating together”. This emphasizes that you learn faster and better with teamwork and collaborating together, which are also key values in our organization’s mission. In this way, I will be able to make sure that I am actively soliciting feedback from my peers as well as contributing new ideas and thus contributing to making sure a positive organizational culture is maintained. This motto helps me to remain more flexible and approach different problems as well as improve the quality of work performed. Growth through collaboration will help me to be beneficial for the team and move towards the organizational objectives.
