Fatima's November Week 1 Reflection
Reflect on your tasks this week. What was the most frustrating and fulfilling part of it? Briefly discuss how steps can be taken to improve workflow and team communication.
This week, the most frustrating part of my tasks was knowing I had to complete a rather large amount of small projects, which was editing posters and flyers to be drafted and posted online. The task itself was simple, but the amount of posters I had to edit was a lot, so I was left feeling overwhelmed. Instead of panicking, I decided to get to work on them right away. By the end of my shift, I had successfully finished all of my tasks and they were all drafted to be posted. Some of the steps that I had taken to improve my workflow was immediately working on what I was given and not wasting any time, and I also asked my project manager any questions or comments I had about the work I was given, to ensure everything went smoothly. Communicating with my project manager had made things much more easy to understand, as I set up a meeting with him to discuss the work.
How do you stay inspired and motivated in your work, even on challenging days? In what ways does U+ support you during those challenging times?
To stay motivated for my work, I make sure to take breaks, set achievable goals, keep track of my tasks, and ask for help when necessary. Taking breaks is important because it increases your level of productivity, and gives you something to take your mind off of work. Setting achievable goals and prioritizing tasks is also important to stay motivated so you do not get burnt out easily, and can finish your tasks on time. Keeping track of your tasks is a good organization skill, and it helps me stay focused on what needs to be done. Lastly, asking for any help when necessary is very important, as you do not want to waste any time on figuring something out, which you could be doing on work.
What are some skills or “hidden talents” you have that could spark something new in our work if we tapped into them?
Some skills that I have that may spark something new in our company’s work are that I am good at art and painting, which are both traits related to design. They are both skills that I take casually for the most part, and I don’t look much into them. Since both skills are related to design and arts, I believe I could spark something new into the company’s work by inputting my artwork in my graphic design or creating a piece for the company itself. It would be an honour to have any of my work displayed in events or online, on the company’s name.
If you could collaborate with anyone in the company, who would it be and why?
If I had the chance to collaborate with anyone in the company, it would be with the people in the marketing team. It creates an exciting opportunity to be able to create something that fits both the standards that both teams follow. We would be able to create something trendy that could have the chance to get big and accentuate our company’s success. Since design requires marketing skills to a degree, it would be great to have people who are specialized in marketing to help us come up with better, stronger ideas and messages to portray in our work. We would work together where the marketing team can understand the target audience’s ideas and needs, and the design team can bring their ideas to life.
