Week 3 Reflection

Please share how you feel about the onboarding process. What are some resources that were helpful, and what’s something you’d like to see implemented in the future?
The onboarding process was great and smooth throughout the week, it prepared me for future major assignments and projects really well from the process, as well as learning important skills such as time management skills and efficient communication skills. During the onboarding process, I found the onboarding website was very helpful. From the website, it allows me to understand the values, goals, and expectations of U+. I would like to see more hands-on training in the future, as it would be interesting and easy to learn while working, and also be able to contribute to the company.
Describe one main task you worked on this week. Who did you work with? How did you approach the task? What did you accomplish?
During this week, the main task I have been working on is researching different items with having a certain budget for each item. If the item is within the budget and it has a high rating from amazon, we are to record it in the spreadsheet. I worked within the department of business and accounting, including our team leader Nuoheng and other high school co-op students. I approached the task by observing how the work is done by the morning shift, and following the pattern of how it had been done. Until now I had contributed a lot in the spreadsheet, and the sheet is almost done and it will be completed before the deadline.
What is one big challenge you faced this week? Who did you turn to when you needed support? Describe what you learned and what you would do differently the next time.
The biggest challenge I faced was having multiple assignments due on the same day, including the school work and projects from the workplace. I turned to my teacher for some support about the assignment in school with some clarification and help. With this experience, I know that it is hard to balance coop work and school work. I learnt that time management skills are more important since co-op starts, and if next time I have multiple assignments due at the same time, I will set a timetable that helps me organize my time and keep my assignment to be done on time.
What personal motto or guiding principle would you bring with you to your role next week, and how do you see it helping you contribute to our organization’s mission?
The person motto I will bring with me to my role is “Do your best”, or in Chinese “落力而為”. It is important to do your best for everything, including managing to do my best in academics, also important to do my best in workplaces as I am not only representing myself individually. This quote would lead me to work hard and do my best to contribute as much as I could in the missions from this placement.
