January Week 2 Reflection – Alan

Alan's January
Week 2 Reflection

What was one learning objective or goal you had entering this co-op placement? Did you accomplish it? How so/why not?

One learning objective I had entering this co-op placement was to improve my teamwork skills. I wanted to enhance my ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams, communicate openly, and contribute meaningfully to group projects. I accomplished this goal by actively engaging in team meetings, offering ideas, and listening to others’ perspectives. Specifically, I noticed a change in my communication when I frequently shared my ideas and volunteered to take on more tasks during design team meetings.

What is the most memorable thing about your placement at U+? It can be an interaction, a project, a skill. Explain it.

The most memorable part of my placement at U+ was the project where I designed logos. I was initially shocked by the assignment, and I was excited that my design would represent educational organizations. At first, it was also challenging since I was not proficient in visual arts and did not possess extensive design skills. Through this project, I learned a lot about designing for formal use.

How has your co-op experience at U+ influenced your career aspirations? (Consider the roles you are open to take on, working model/location, uncompromisable workplace values, etc.)

My co-op experience at U+ made me prefer to work virtually. I find that I can better control the amount of distractions I get when working in a physically isolated environment, while virtual communication still allows for plenty of teamwork. Additionally, I have realized the value of flexibility in the working model, which provides lower stress levels and improves my overall productivity.

Write a six-word memoir about your co-op experience. (E.g., “the best routes are rarely pre-mapped.”)

One thrives the most in challenges.
