Ocean's December Week 3 Reflection
Reflecting on your job performance, what factors (e.g., environment, intrinsic motivation) contribute to your productivity? Please briefly explain how so.
There are a lot of things that affect my productivity while I am working, and I believe it is really dependent on your physical workspace, and the tabs/tools on your computer. For instance, the technology you have in your workspace is a factor– I keep my phone away from me, my tablet for (typically) transferring files, and my computer for all the main work. As well, the way you organize your tabs on your computer is a factor. I keep mine fairly organized, which helps me stay productive and ready.
Interviewees often ask the interviewer about the company culture during interviews. Reflecting on your placement experience at U+, how would you describe the U+ company culture?
Being a Co-op student in a fully virtual position, I can only have my say for the virtual side of things. However, the company culture at U+ Education is very open, welcoming, and encouraging to ask for help and get feedback. Since I work in such a remote work environment, it is heavily encouraged to constantly communicate with others to get updates and feedback. Because of this, U+ Education’s company culture is overall very friendly.
What are two things you are grateful for that is related to your placement? (E.g., an opportunity to work on a certain project, making new friends)
I am really grateful and happy that at U+ Education, I get to take a small step into the world of animating. Animation has been a side interest of mine along with doing digital art, and to see my supervisor and Co-op teacher recognize this, I felt happy that I have a few opportunities to try animating. On top of that, I find it even more grateful that I am here at U+ Education while gaining the experience of having a job by taking Co-op. It relieves me that finding a job is not so hard or complicated after all.
Our sister organization YRES has a mascot called Nova, a big horned sheep. There are no other details about her other than she always wears a red kerchief and that she is always ready for an adventure. What do you suppose is the backstory of Nova?
The word “nova” is heavily related to astrology, which is also a Latin word, meaning “new”. As such, I always imagined Nova to have some backstory from another planet, similar to how Mojo comes from a different planet other than Earth. I would predict that Nova was born as a very small star in space, then beginning to glow and expand into a shining, bright star. Then, as time passes on, she begins to take form in a bighorn sheep to spread wealthiness across planets. Through programs and camps, she now resides on Earth to spread wealth and cheer to many.
