Fatima's December Week 2 Reflection
Describe a challenge you have faced in a project thus far. How did you overcome it?
Lately, I have been working on a project on Eventbrite where I am tasked to review all events and add the new 2025 dates for each event for ACES and YRES. At first this task seemed simple to me, as I had read documents that helped me understand the interface and usage of Eventbrite. A challenge I faced in this project is that some of the classes had to be cancelled and that I found out some of the emails had to be changed on the banners after I had uploaded a lot of them. It was a bit of an inconvenience, along with the fact that Eventbrite was hard to use as the website was slow and somewhat glitchy.
At U+, we advocate for lifelong learning and professional development through experiences. Describe a time where you were pushed out of your comfort zone during your placement and what you have learned from the experience.
A time where I had an experience at my placement that pushed me out of my comfort zone was when I got the chance to try many different programs and websites that I had not tried before. Some examples of this are Hootsuite and Eventbrite, that I have been working on recently. I was more comfortable with working with softwares I was used to, but it was a great learning experience to get the opportunity to work with new ones. I learned how to use them and how to use them effectively, following the handover document instructions.
What application or website do you use the most on a regular basis during your shift (e.g., Slack, Google search engine, monday.com)? What do you use it for?
On a regular basis, the applications and websites I use the most are Canva and Slack. I use Slack as my main form of communication between my supervisor, teammates, and I. It is a great form of simple communication where I also get my newest tasks to work on. I use Canva to work on and create all of my design work, and it also comes useful when I need to change the information on any banners and such. It is a very versatile platform that can be used to create almost any type of design.
If you had to choose an animal (real or fictional) to describe your working style, what would it be and why?
If I had to choose an animal to describe my working style, I would probably be an octopus. They are known for having multiple tentacles, which represents how I tend to multitask a lot. I don’t multitask with more than 2 things at once, but it is an efficient way to get things done a bit more faster. Octopuses seem like a good fit for my working style!
