Jaydon's December Week 1 Reflection
Reflect on your current projects and responsibilities. Are you surprised or satisfied with your contributions so far? Where do you see improvement since the beginning of the term?
“Reflecting on my current responsibilities, I feel satisfied with the progress I’ve made. Initially, I didn’t expect to adapt as quickly to tools like Wix and Google Ads, but diving into website maintenance and Google Ad statistics has been an eye opening experience. Learning how to build and maintain a site that aligns with a professional vision was a challenge, especially with Wix occasionally crashing when I tried uploading images. Despite that, I was able to overcome those hurdles by relying on YouTube tutorials and seeking support from my supervisors and peers. With Google Ads, I found issues understanding marketing concepts which were foreign to me in the past. I overcame those issues by researching online and contacting peers. Looking back, I see a significant improvement in my technical skills. adaptability, and my ability to troubleshoot issues independently.
Since the beginning of the term, I’ve grown in my ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines efficiently, even when unexpected challenges like injuries or other setbacks. I’ve also noticed an improvement in my confidence when discussing ideas with my team, which ties into my goal of enhancing my leadership skills. Moving forward, I plan to continue building on these skills by taking on more responsibility and pushing myself to take on more difficult creative projects to further broaden my experience.”
When thinking of the work that you do, the people you work with, and the outcomes of your projects, what aspect brings you the most fulfillment? Are there any other aspects not mentioned that you want to highlight?
The aspect of my work that brings me the most fulfillment is completing a Wix website page. For some reason, there’s something incredibly satisfying about seeing all the elements come together; from design, layout, and functionality to achieving a user-friendly result. Furthermore, I find immense fulfillment in learning new subjects, such as when I worked on Google Ads. The process of acquiring new knowledge and mastering unfamiliar concepts was both rewarding and motivating.
Collaboration is a huge motivational factor in the workplace. Out of the people you’ve worked with at U+, choose a minimum of 3 people to show appreciation to and explain your choice.
“1. Aaron Viegas;
– I appreciated how he always communicated with me in a timely manner. Whether it was a question about a task or clarification on an assignment, he consistently provided quality responses. What stood out even more was his ability to remain supportive and communicate effectively regardless of the situation. This reliability of a work-peer whom was in the same sector as me, made any project that I worked on feel more comfortable.
2. Neeha Baral;
– I deeply appreciate Neeha, the team supervisor. She consistently provided clear and effective instructions for every project, ensuring that I always had a solid understanding of what needed to be done. Furthermore, Neeha often went above and beyond by using her personal time off the clock to offer support. Whenever I found myself stuck on a task, she was there to provide guidance, answer questions, or suggest solutions. I appreciated her commitment to go the extra mile which made a significant difference in my ability to succeed and do my tasks effectively.
3. Tanya Leung;
– Another person I’d like to appreciate is Tanya Leung. She maintained excellent communication with me throughout my Co-op, ensuring I always felt supported. Her understanding nature stood out as whenever unexpected matters arose on my end, she was flexible and provided the necessary leeway or time off without hesitation.”
If you could mentor a new hire, what would you share as the most valuable advice?
“One advice that I can provide to new hires is to be; Proactive and Humble.
They can achieve this by proactively taking initiative whenever possible. When faced with a problem or a new task, they should first explore solutions and attempt to learn independently, which will help build their skills and adaptability, while remaining unafraid to seek help when necessary. By doing their delegated tasks through this balance their independence and teamwork will grow, enabling them to be efficient with any future tasks that they may encounter.”
