December Week 1 Reflection – Erin Tam

Erin's December Week 1 Reflection

Reflect on your current projects and responsibilities. Are you surprised or satisfied with your contributions so far? Where do you see improvement since the beginning of the term?

Reflecting on my current projects, I am surprised and satisfied with my contributions leading to this many opportunities. I am able to take charge of leading a team, collaborating with others, and being responsible for editing! I see improvements in myself as my dedicated mindset and putting in my best effort allowed me to test out my limits and challenge myself further. I improved a lot on multitasking, leadership, and initiation where I have the opportunity to practice these skills often. In certain aspects, I am also more familiar with how U+ Education runs so I can access information, resources, and people much easier to have my tasks completed efficiently.

When thinking of the work that you do, the people you work with, and the outcomes of your projects, what aspect brings you the most fulfillment? Are there any other aspects not mentioned that you want to highlight?

Among the different tasks and working with others, an aspect that brings me the most fulfillment would be the assurance of my work and ability. I always tend to doubt how I do and never confident enough on whether or not if my work is good. So, by being given different tasks and responsibilities within my workplace assures my ability to take on these responsibilities! It feels even honoured that my work is approved and can be posted on either social media or websites, and when I am trusted by some coworkers for help, assistance, or any collaboration!

Collaboration is a huge motivational factor in the workplace. Out of the people you’ve worked with at U+, choose a minimum of 3 people to show appreciation to and explain your choice.

So far at U+, I mostly work closely with the marketing team rather than other departments. And as I am in charge of the leadership project on Instagram Outreach, I would choose Tina and Vanessa since I worked with them the most! Although I was assigned the role of leader, I always leave space for suggestions and ideas from them and I believe that they are really great teammates where we can improve as a whole and have great collaboration for the success of the project. A third person I collaborated the most with would probably be Zhen! My Eventbrite tasks were given by her and I have been working on that for over a month now, so I had to communicate with her a lot! She provides the clearest instructions and she seems to know almost everything about the company. So, she is a great person to reach out to whenever I have problems or need help with Eventbrite!

If you could mentor a new hire, what would you share as the most valuable advice?

If I were to mentor a new hire, I would definitely be suggesting them to put in all their effort on every task as best as they can. It is often easy to slack off in an online environment and think that workload is not as heavy compared to in-person. However, it would just be wasting valuable time to learn and showcase your ability. So, the most valuable advice I have would be to put in your best and ask for suggestions and help from others whenever needed. There are a lot of helpful peers and coworkers within U+ Education and through their reviews and suggestions on your work, you can learn something new and improve!
