Elina's December Week 1 Reflection

Reflect on your current projects and responsibilities. Are you surprised or satisfied with your contributions so far? Where do you see improvement since the beginning of the term?
Reflecting on my current projects and responsibilities, I wouldn’t say I’m satisfied with it yet. As of right now, I’m working on my project proposal for the Health Canada application form for the Youth Mental Health Fund. I wouldn’t say that this project is good yet because there are still a lot of things I can improve and add details on. This project proposal takes a lot more time than the last one I did so I think once I complete this one, I would feel satisfied.
When thinking of the work that you do, the people you work with, and the outcomes of your projects, what aspect brings you the most fulfillment? Are there any other aspects not mentioned that you want to highlight?
I think what brings me the most fulfillment is how I’ve come up with a whole project by myself. Doing these types of projects make me proud because they allow me to showcase my skills and ideas. They give insights on how we are able to make a difference in the community. Working with a group of creative peers also brings fulfillment as you are able to collaborate on projects and see the difference your project makes together.
Collaboration is a huge motivational factor in the workplace. Out of the people you’ve worked with at U+, choose a minimum of 3 people to show appreciation to and explain your choice.
Firstly i would like to thank Tanya, Kevin and Jessica for the guidance they gave during my placement. Tanya was the first person I met at U+ and she really made me feel welcomed and made sure I knew what I was doing. Kevin would always provide me with really detailed feedback on my projects which allows me to learn and improve from them. Jessica is always fun to talk to during in-person shifts and I really thank her for making my co-op experience more fun and enjoyable. I would also like to thank two of my peers, Aliya and Rose. Us 4 along with Jessica would always have the best time together on Fridays and I really enjoyed going in office to see them and now i’m sad because there’s no more in person shifts 🙁
If you could mentor a new hire, what would you share as the most valuable advice?
For me, I would probably say to take the opportunity to make connections and build friendships with your colleagues because it really makes your shifts wayyy more enjoyable and fun. Having friends at work has enhanced my overall experience because if all you do is just work then of course you won’t have a good experience. Being able to collaborate and learn from others is just as important as developing your own professional skills.
