May Reflection – Christina

Christina's Reflection

What were your initial expectations coming to work at U+, and how have they evolved after your first month on the job?

I initially expected to be on a tight schedule, under a lot of pressure and stress like during a typical University term. My first month on the job at U+ has significantly contrasted these assumptions as we are provided with flexible hours and a balanced workload. I began my first week overwhelmed and nervous to step foot in a new and professional environment, but quickly adapted and was introduced to the company in a welcoming yet informative manner. I love that I’m permitted to adjust my virtual working hours when necessary, leaving me with a sense of freedom and the ability to put my personal well being first. Additionally, as the company strives on active communication, I can be assured that any of my questions or concerns will be quickly resolved or recognized. There are always people around to help out when needed and we are only assigned as many tasks as we can handle.

What were your first interactions with the team and how have you been working to build relationships between you and your fellow team members?

My team and I started off strong, connecting and fostering relationships from the first day. We found many similarities amongst us and agreed to tackle this journey together. From the very first day, we began with various group discussions and thrilling icebreakers. Since then, we’ve continued to approach problems together, seeking help from one another while sharing plenty of laughs together. One of my first projects permitted me to work alongside Erin and lead a Lego Robotics workshop at Parkview Public School. This activity allowed us both to hone our teaching and leadership skills, along with our collaboration and public speaking skills. After spending many hours working together to effectively guide a lesson and manage a classroom, we’ve developed a strong and trusting relationship with each other.

How do you envision your term at U+ contributing to your personal and professional growth?

My term at U+/YRES has an impactful ability of contributing towards my personal and professional growth. The organization supplies me with a wide variety of experiences, ranging from aspects encompassing various disciplines. Some of my responsibilities include science and language education, working with kids, marketing and outreach, and many more. As this is my first work term, I am provided with a flexible environment that gives me plenty of opportunities and resources to grow my skills, habits, and abilities. I look forward to building my time-management and leadership skills, in addition to learning efficient project management and curriculum development.

Who do you want to show some appreciation to the most and why?

Megan – She has been working hard and is always open to helping others while balancing her own tasks. I think she has made an influential impact towards the company 😀
