Vanessa's October Week 3 Reflection
Describe your main tasks this week. How did you approach the task? What did you accomplish? What did you learn?
During this week, I had done many different tasks where I was able to learn about the qualities of this position. I worked on a video for the different Region Educational Services which had helped my creativity since we had to create a week in the life video of a co-op student working in marketing highlighting our key moments. As well as we had to collaborate with others to complete a presentation which allowed me to work on working with others to complete a task. Together we were able to deliver a well rehearsed presentation to our fellow coworkers to update them on what we were doing as the Marketing team and they were able to share feedback on how we would be able to improve for the betterment of the company!
What strategies do you have for staying on track during work and avoiding distractions when working in a virtual environment? What advice do you have for future co-ops?
A few of the strategies I had for staying on track and doing my work in a virtual environment is finding a quiet space with a proper desk and chair. As well as I found that putting your phone away or on silent will always help in staying focussed in your work. By limiting distractions around you, it will help you work more efficiently and allow you to get your work done. A calendar always helps as well to stay on track of your work with a good to-do list on the side. By listing all the things you want to be done by the end of the shift and crossing them off one by one makes sure that you are getting all the work finished that you need.
How do you measure success in the workplace? What are some standards you have set and feedback you’ve gotten from teachers, supervisors, and coworkers that help guide you?
I measure success in the workplace when I am able to efficiently get a task done and putting effort in the things that I am doing. Some feedback that I have gotten from teachers and supervisors is sometimes to add more things to a project or to ask others before going directly do the supervisor since my co-workers may have already asked the question or have the answers I am looking for. Standards that I have set for myself would include many things such as being responsible and taking the initiative I need for myself.
What soft/hard skills do you feel most confident in, and where do you still need improvement?
A few soft skills I feel the most confident in are editing, translation and social media since those are the ones I am most frequently doing. Editing on Canva for promotions is something that I have heavily developed this week with editing the video and using my translation skills to edit a poster for the volunteer work from English to French. Social media is also something that I feel confident in since I have had to post the videos and track their engagement where I learnt how to navigate and find ways to boost their engagements.
