October Week 3 Reflection – Mayuresan

Mayuresan's October Week 3 Reflection

Describe your main tasks this week. How did you approach the task? What did you accomplish? What did you learn?

My main tasks this week was working on a LEGO Robotics lesson on Canva targeted at 5th grade students. This task was a bit more challenging than previous ones, as it required me to get creative and brainstorm ways to incorporate the unique lesson into what we’ve been offering our students so far in terms of LEGO Robotic lessons. I approached this task with a willingness to try new strategies and use my creativity to make it fun and engaging. I learned of how unique codes and programs can make even simple builds do amazing things.

What strategies do you have for staying on track during work and avoiding distractions when working in a virtual environment? What advice do you have for future co-ops?

Strategies I have for staying on track during work while avoiding distractions when working in a virtual environment would be setting personal daily reminders to take short breaks and reflect on the work I’ve done so far to not burn myself out. Being mindful of the time allotted to me to work on projects also helps me feel a sense of responsibility and thus, allows me to put as much effort as I can into my work. Advice I would give for future co-op students would be, although some tasks may seem mundane and boring initially, with your own effort and creativity, you can make them engaging and even memorable for yourself and others.

How do you measure success in the workplace? What are some standards you have set and feedback you’ve gotten from teachers, supervisors, and coworkers that help guide you?

I measure my personal success in the workplace based on the comments and feedback given to me from teachers, supervisors and coworkers. Some standards I have set for myself include asking for clarification for tasks and ensuring I am an active and engaged participant during meetings. Feedback I’ve gotten from teachers, supervisors, and coworkers that have helped guide me often include suggestions and ways to improve on my work, offering me another perspective on something I hadn’t previously considered, which I consider to be valuable.

What soft/hard skills do you feel most confident in, and where do you still need improvement?

A few soft skills such as communication and teamwork are the ones I feel most confident in, as seen with my ability to collaborate with team members during my LEGO Robotic assignment. Some hard skills I could improve on include getting more familiar with the coding language and lessons LEGO Education has to offer to be able to create engaging and fun lessons for children from Grades 1 to 5.
