November Week 2 Reflection – Ocean

Ocean's November Week 2 Reflection

Reflect on the responsibilities you’ve taken on so far at U+, what project(s) are you most proud of and why?

Although this is an upcoming project that I am currently taking on, I think this very project is going to be my proudest. My project is to create a video that promotes U+ Education’s High School Co-op program, and I was certainly delighted to work on this with another colleague. While making a video is brand new to me, I think this will provide me valuable experience, and was even one of my goals to create a video in Co-op.

Think back to the goals you set for yourself near the beginning of your co-op term. What steps have you taken to achieve these goals? (if you haven’t started yet, what steps are you going to take?)

One of my goals that I made early into co-op was to be a hardworking individual that can provide a positive impact at U+ Education. So far, I have been very open to working on tasks and completing them on time, and asking many of my peers and supervisor for help. I have also tried to be responsible for my time spent working, and I am super happy that it is used to improve and strengthen U+ Education.

What’s an unexpected skill you developed over the work term so far and how do you envision this bringing a positive change to your career?

If I had to say, I think it would be my initiative. It is normally difficult for me to have the initiative and take risks, especially at school, but Co-op has taught me a lot about this. You need to speak up many times and show you are willing for any other tasks. This shows that you want to be a responsible worker that cares for the company, and I have been doing so. I am glad to be taking a lot more initiative and challenging more tasks.

If you could change one thing about your working environment, what would it be and how would it positively impact the quality of your work?

I think it would be great to enforce a to-do list for students in Co-op, and have your supervisor review it every so often. I already have a to-do list for all the work I organize, and it is helpful to keep track of your tasks that you need to finish. If other Co-op students have not gotten into this habit, then I think it would be beneficial to make it mandatory, so that students can try their hardest and check in frequently with their supervisor.
