Hudson's November Week 2 Reflection
Reflect on the responsibilities you’ve taken on so far at U+, what project(s) are you most proud of and why?
The project I’ve been most proud of for this past week is how I managed to gain more confidence when calling storage unit companies. I’ve become less afraid to make calls, answer questions and naturally communicate with people that I haven’t even met before. I no longer have this impression that calling representatives from other companies is a grand task that my sixteen year old self couldn’t do. Thus, I’m most proud of this project for the experience I gained from facilitating a direct line of communication along with newfound confidence!
Think back to the goals you set for yourself near the beginning of your co-op term. What steps have you taken to achieve these goals? (if you haven’t started yet, what steps are you going to take?)
Reflecting on my set goal to gain as much experience as possible in departments of business, I’ve taken a lot of initiative to try new things when approaching the tasks I’m assigned with. For starters, I try to maximize the leverage I can get with software, such as getting a better idea on constructing a healthy workflow with Google Calendar and learning to use monday.com for tasks that provide me insight on what project management is like. In addition, I make voluntary efforts to go the extra mile of my tasks, such as helping to create dashboards that update team progression on one of my projects and taking the time to make comments and suggestions. In summary, I pool as much effort as possible to take initiative as I believe that practice exposes me to more learning opportunities.
What’s an unexpected skill you developed over the work term so far and how do you envision this bringing a positive change to your career?
I believe that my attention to detail was something I didn’t expect to improve. There are times where I’ve made mistakes, such as registering a student to a YRES French Program they didn’t sign up for and researching for other companies’ email addresses just to realize some of them are faulty. Whether the mistakes are big or small, they’ve pushed me to become more attentive and to always recheck my projects which will bring a positive change to my career as I become more eager to deliver higher quality in my works.
If you could change one thing about your working environment, what would it be and how would it positively impact the quality of your work?
I’d like to have a chair that’s more comfortable and ergonomic. I find that sometimes my posture is too forward at times when I’m working and it can get distracting when parts of my body start to ache when I’m not sitting in the most comfortable position. That’s why if I had a chair that best suits my physical characteristics, I’d be able to prevent strain and become more productive when working.
