Mathew's January
Week 2 Reflection

What was one learning objective or goal you had entering this co-op placement? Did you accomplish it? How so/why not?
My goal entering this co-op placement was to experience the role of an accountant and decide if I wanted to pursue it. I also aimed to develop leadership skills by planning, delegating, and completing a project. I achieved this by working on tasks like budgeting, sponsorship projects, and creating brochures, gaining insight into accounting and its tools. Leading team projects and receiving feedback helped me improve my skills and confidence, confirming my interest in accounting and leadership roles.
What is the most memorable thing about your placement at U+? It can be an interaction, a project, a skill. Explain it.
The most memorable part of my placement at U+ was collaborating with my team on the sponsorship project. Working together to create a detailed outline and designing a professional brochure taught me the value of teamwork, communication, and leadership. It was rewarding to see our ideas come to life and make a meaningful contribution. This project stood out because it challenged me to take initiative, manage tasks, and apply creative problem-solving skills effectively.
How has your co-op experience at U+ influenced your career aspirations? (Consider the roles you are open to take on, working model/location, uncompromisable workplace values, etc.)
My co-op experience at U+ has solidified my interest in pursuing a career in accounting while also highlighting my passion for leadership and collaboration. I am now open to roles that combine technical accounting skills with team coordination, such as project management or financial analysis. Working in a hybrid model, like at U+, appeals to me for its flexibility and efficiency. Additionally, I’ve learned that open communication, teamwork, and opportunities for growth are uncompromisable workplace values for me.
Write a six-word memoir about your co-op experience. (E.g., “the best routes are rarely pre-mapped.”)
