What were the most significant tasks or projects you worked on this week, and how did they contribute to U+'s goals and objectives?

Ammar Qadir – Web Developer Assistant:

This week, one of the most significant tasks I undertook was conducting industry research in the field of web development. As a web developer at U+, I delved into analyzing current industry trends, competitor websites, and emerging technologies.

This research allowed me to make valuable suggestions for optimizing and updating our own websites, aligning them with the latest industry standards and user preferences. By implementing these suggestions, I aim to enhance the user experience, improve site performance, and ultimately contribute to U+’s goals of staying at the forefront of web development and providing top-notch online solutions to our clients.

Breyanka Elankeswaran – Web Developer Assistant:

This week, I was given an industry research project and did an in-depth analysis of our websites and competitors. This endeavor allowed me to not only enhance my research skills but also strengthen my communication abilities. By providing insightful input to enhance our own websites, I get to play a role in improving U+’s position in the market. Moreover, this task demanded that I learnt to prioritize my time, as to allocate resources efficiently to meet deadlines. In addition, I dedicated time to reviewing donation websites and Instagram profiles for the YRES initiative.

This effort allowed me to contribute valuable feedback that can significantly augment YRES’ online presence. This kind of input is very useful in maintaining a strong digital footprint, which is indispensable in today’s competitive landscape.Through these tasks, I have continued to develop my reliability and overall contribution to U+’s goals and objectives. I look forward to building upon these experiences to further propel U+ towards its vision and improve myself in the process 🙂

Describe a challenge you encountered during your work this week. How did you approach and overcome this challenge, or what steps did you take to seek assistance and learn from it?

Ammar Qadir – Web Developer Assistant:

This week, a challenge I faced was having to miss two days of work, which put me behind schedule on an industry project. To overcome this setback, I took a proactive approach. Upon returning, I dedicated extra hours, worked diligently, and maintained effective communication with my team to ensure I caught up on the missed work.

By prioritizing tasks, setting clear goals, and seeking assistance from colleagues when needed, I managed to complete the project before the end of the week. This experience reinforced the importance of adaptability and teamwork in overcoming unexpected challenges and meeting project deadlines.

Breyanka Elankeswaran – Web Developer Assistant:

This week, I encountered a significant challenge when I realized I would not be able to attend an important meeting due to a prior commitment. Recognizing the importance of the meeting, I immediately took proactive steps to address the issue. I approached my supervisor in advance, explaining the situation and requesting accommodations to ensure I could still contribute effectively. Fortunately, I was provided a valuable solution: a recording of the meeting. Through this, I was able to stay updated on the discussions from the session.

Reflect on the skills you utilized or developed this week. Which skills were the most important for your tasks, and how do you see them benefiting your future career aspirations?

Ammar Qadir – Web Developer Assistant:

One skill that I developed from not only this week but last week is how to learn to use Slack. This app is very good and I count this as a skill because it is the most important skill when it comes to finishing tasks. This benefits me for my future career aspirations because in the future in not only Web Development but also in computer engineering I’ve heard people using slack a lot so I think that by having the experience of using it from now it helps me build more confidence for the future to come when I get a job in my own career path.

Breyanka Elankeswaran – Web Developer Assistant:

This week, I heavily relied on my attention to detail and understanding of design principles while analyzing websites and social media platforms. This allowed me to pinpoint specific areas of success and areas that could be improved for the different websites I was provided. It was crucial in ensuring that all websites and social media pages aligned with user expectations and industry best practices.

This skill set is important for any role that involves creating or improving digital interfaces, and I see it as a cornerstone for my future career in computer engineering. Crafting electronic components and perfect codes require a lot of work and attention to detail in order to be fully perfected. I need to make sure everything is visually organized and neat, but also functional, so that everyone works as supposed to.

What interactions or collaborations with colleagues or supervisors stood out to you this week? How did these interactions enhance your understanding of the workplace and the industry?

Ammar Qadir – Web Developer Assistant:

There were a couple interactions that I had with my colleagues and supervisors this week. Starting off on Monday I did the Q&A session with Kevin and Carey which gave me more insight on the company’s path and future. It also allowed me to ask questions as I was planning to leave on Tuesday and Wednesday and there was a mandatory meeting being planned on Tuesday. So I was wondering how I would be able to leave the mandatory meeting and I was informed that it would be recorded and also put on slack for me to watch later. Another interaction that I had was when I was letting Carey know that I would not be here on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week as I had to do First Aid and CPR at school.

Breyanka Elankeswaran – Web Developer Assistant:

This week, I had the wonderful opportunity to participate in an online meeting with my colleagues and supervisors, which left a positive impression on me. The Q&A session was particularly insightful as the discussions were clear and concise.. This initial interaction really set the tone for the work environment as it feels very efficient and open. The fast-paced nature of the work is a bit noticeable, but what struck me was how well-organized everything was. Despite the rapid pace, there is a clear structure in place that ensures that tasks are tackled efficiently.
