December Week 3 Reflection – Erin

Erin's December Week 3 Reflection

Reflecting on your job performance, what factors (e.g., environment, intrinsic motivation) contribute to your productivity? Please briefly explain how so.

Reflecting on my job performance, I believe the coworkers/community here, limiting distractions, and having a to-do list are factors that contribute most to my productivity! Since most of the people working at U+ are pretty hardworking, this provides me with an environment to strive for my best and complete my tasks to the best of my ability. Then, as notifications tend to distract me the most, I would put away my phone during my shift time to prevent distraction, leading to my only focus on work. I think in that way I can put my attention towards the work I have to get done, and it motivates me to finish them before resting. Lastly, setting a to-do list helped me a lot in productivity and completing tasks punctually. I love the feeling of checking off my list and feeling accomplished, so having a to-do list by my side will definitely increase my productivity at work.

Interviewees often ask the interviewer about the company culture during interviews. Reflecting on your placement experience at U+, how would you describe the U+ company culture?

In terms of the company culture at U+, I would say it is very collaborative and innovative. With many departments working together as a whole, the company enables idea sharing, suggestions, and teamwork with one another. This creates a very supportive and engaging environment for coworkers to learn from one another’s perspectives. Moreover, the company’s culture is also enriching, it teaches you many new skills and encourages you to discover their strength area or to try something new in general!

What are two things you are grateful for that is related to your placement? (E.g., an opportunity to work on a certain project, making new friends)

Two things I am grateful for related to this placement would be the opportunities/assurance given to me either to lead a project or just a new task and to actually make friends my age within this online setting! I am very grateful for the assurance given especially, to be able to take over certain work, work chosen as an example, to lead a team. These opportunities I know carry heavy responsibilities, but to be able to be selected, I would say I am very honoured! As for making friends, I was not expecting to meet so many people my age so it was out of expectations to meet this many like-minded people who are also dedicated to their work and friendly to work with. This enabled a lot of smooth communication, collaboration, and excellent team work to happen!

Our sister organization YRES has a mascot called Nova, a big horned sheep. There are no other details about her other than she always wears a red kerchief and that she is always ready for an adventure. What do you suppose is the backstory of Nova?

As Nova holds the characteristics of a bighorn, red kerchief, and a mountain-like shirt, I believe the backstory of Nova would be a determined leader. She seems to be curious about everything, always prepared for challenges, and the red kerchief on her just symbolizes her unwavering commitment as a leader. She may also represent the different opportunities YRES offers, as she looks eager to learn and discover, I think she can serve to encourage many to try out new programs and camps with her curious personality!
