Zhenyan's September Reflection
How do you envision your position and projects at U+ contributing to your skill growth and professional development?
Coming from an 8 month co-op term, my latter 4 months included tasks that built off the foundational projects I took on during the first 4 months. For example, I took on new HR and project management tasks that allow me to practice leadership, time management, organization, and recruitment duties. These skills will allow me to be a more rounded candidate for future positions and give me the confidence to succeed in future roles. I really value that U+ is a company that listens to their co-op student’s requests for tasks that contribute to personal and professional development.

Describe one of the biggest challenges you encountered this month. How did you address it? What would you do differently the next time?
One of the biggest challenges this month was the solo management of virtual monthly classes. With a closer-knit team this term, it was a struggle in the beginning to set everything up and update all the flyers, eventbrite events, monday.com forms, automations, and boards. This process took a while before I eventually delegated different tasks to different people and closely monitored their progress, speeding up the delivery by a tremendous amount. In the event that I encounter this situation again, I think I would ask for helpers sooner even if it’s just for setting up drafts because I can review and publish those a lot faster when they have already been set up.
What was the highlight of your month while working at U+? Discuss your major contributions, interactions, achievements, etc.
Along with my new duties, roles, and projects coming into the second term of my 8 month co-op, some of my notable contributions to the company’s success includes updating and launching 38 virtual programs, attending UTSC Management Co-op Networking Breakfast Meet, UTSC LAUNCH, and managing a classroom of 15 campers during PA day camp. Over the course of the month, I also got closer with my coworkers and continued to foster strong friendships, which always closes some gaps when it comes to teamwork and support!

Please give a shoutout to someone who has helped you significantly over the course of the first month and describe your choice. You can shoutout multiple people. (No min.)
Christina – for always actively reaching out and offering support on tasks that she can help on to lower my work load, and always bringing bright energy to the workplace 😀
Please share a funny image or meme that describes your first month at the company!
