Lily – January Reflection

My January with U Plus Education

What motivated you to join U+?

I wanted to join U+ for the roles and job descriptions offered. I became interested in the role of web developer due to my interest in design and technology. I’ve always been curious about the making and designing of well-made websites, and this seemed like the perfect opportunity to take my first step into the field. I’ve also been working towards making my own website, so I thought that this role would help me develop my personal and career goals. The teaching assistant role was also an interest of mine, particularly from my experience working with City of Toronto summer camps. I found a lot of enjoyment in seeing kids grow and develop from my teaching and influence, and I hope to find that at U+ again.

What was your impression of first interactions with the team and the organization’s culture?

My first interaction with the team was the first day at Saturday GPS Camp. I met all my coworkers in person for the first time, and we settled down to learn all about the rules and future expectations of us at U+ Education. The environment was new to everyone, so it did feel a bit tense at first, but as we learned more about each other, we started opening up, and I felt more comfortable. One thing I was really glad about was how we all came from Waterloo and had similar backgrounds, so it felt easy to relate to each other. How do you envision U+ contributing to your academic and professional growth?
Joining U+ is integral to my academic and professional growth as a web developer. The opportunity aligns with my passion for design and technology, providing a platform to delve into the creation and design of high-quality websites. This role offers a practical outlet to apply theoretical knowledge and hone my skills in website development, complementing my aspiration to build a personal website. Additionally, the prospect of becoming a teaching assistant resonates with my past experience at City of Toronto summer camps, where I discovered fulfillment in nurturing growth in others. U+ promises a dynamic environment where I can blend technical expertise with a genuine passion for mentorship, fostering both personal and career development.
