Tobin's Reflection

During these past 2 months, what were your major duties and how did they relate to your academic studies?

During these past two months, these were some of my major duties: Working closely with camp counsellors on the onboarding process, working tirelessly to solve the problems of VSC’s and standard first aid, as well as completion of the onboarding form and camp counsellor training. I also worked onboarding the newer counsellors to integrate them and get them sped up into training. I also did Weekend Elite camp, working with the children and teaching them both athletic and educational lessons. I also have built contracts and developed timesheets. I’ve conducted numerous interviews and attended networking and recruiting events such as UTSC Launch. All of this has contributed to my management skills. As someone going into business, I’m truly excited about how much I’ve learned.

In May you were asked to envision how U+ would contribute to your growth. How has your time here contributed to your personal and professional development? Were there any unexpected challenges or benefits?

My time here has contributed massively to my personal and professional development. I have been blessed with the opportunity to try so many things and work with so many different departments to contribute to the everlasting success of U+. I’ve learned so many things about Human Resources, like onboarding, the recruitment process, talent acquisition, and attending events like UTSC Launch. Some benefits I’ve gained are new relationships. I’ve had a lot of inquiries and people reaching out to me on Linkedin, whether to talk about job positions or even just my experience. It has greatly expanded my pool of connections that I can definitely leverage in the future.

Describe 2-3 projects from your co-op that you’re particularly proud of, and how they have helped you grow academically and/or professionally?

The first project I’m proud of is being assigned to work with all of the summer camp counsellors. I’ve worked with them on numerous projects within this one, like answering questions to the onboarding process all the way to doing the flyer task together. It’s helped my professional development, working with people and growing my interpersonal skills. Secondly was the contracts. I was extremely happy to be assigned with such an important project, building confidential and legal contracts for all of the summer camp counsellors. This project has contributed significantly to all of my legal classes, as contracts is something that I’ve taken classes on specifically the legalities of what goes into each one.

Please nominate someone who deserves the employee of the month award and explain why briefly. You can nominate more than one person.

Christina. She and I worked closely on the flyer task, and the success of this task should be attributed to her talents.

Share photos of fond memories you made while at work.
