Now that camp has officially started, describe one challenge and how you overcame it during the transition to camp duties.

One challenge I experienced was the switch from leading the intermediate age group to leading the senior age group. The difference in maturity, age range and behaviour was an adjustment for me as I have previously only taught the intermediate age group. Once I switched age groups I had to learn to be more stern and much louder to control the classroom. I happen to be a soft spoken person, to overcome this I practice projecting my voice, rather than shouting as it allows me to be louder for a longer period of time without hurting my throat. I have taken strategies from other senior counsellors and make sure to communicate with my co-counsellors to best manage the classroom.

Describe your top 3 camp moments thus far and why they stand out to you.

The Camp wide relay race in week 1 was a really fun experience and it was a great opportunity for all the campers to interact with each other. I also got to do the race alongside my class and all the other counsellors could also join in on the fun.
The workshops in week 2 with the dentist and Brianna from St. Regis. It was amazing to see all 100+ campers and staff all engaged in the topics of the workshop and activities.
Bonding with my fellow counsellors at Stonebridge. We do a lot together and have done a lot of fun things to keep camp exciting for us as well. For example, we created a candy salad which many of us contributed to..

Being a month into camp, how do you see the summer camp experience contributing to your personal and professional growth?

The beginning of camp was a rocky start for me, I had to learn how to adapt to many changes and switches that caused hiccups in my daily routine. Due to these changes, I believe camp will help with my adaptability which will be needed for my future career goals. This would be helpful in my personal life as things are always changing around us in the world and being fast at adapting will allow you to be more successful.

Please nominate someone who deserves the employee of the month award and explain why briefly.

I would like to shout out Eric who switched classrooms with me, we work well together and without him I would not be able to control my classroom. He is always able to command a classroom well and support me where I need it

Share photos of fun times you’ve had while at camp!
