Winnie's Reflection

During these past 2 months, what were your major duties and how did they relate to your academic studies?
My major and ongoing duties would be the hiring process, HR-related events, and my 1on1 virtual classes. I think the HR-related events are very interesting and it makes the hiring process not limited to just resumes, interviews, and hiring decisions. It is interesting to see applicants from events, such as career fairs apply to our position offering and get to have a chance to officially interview them. Moreover, getting the chance to speak and meet with them in person projects a more realistic character. HR offers the opportunity to meet new people and see the applications and qualifications of different roles, which promotes the operation and drive of the organization. For my virtual classes, I am teaching one that is younger at primary age and another older in grade 7/8, hence it is a very different experience in the teaching. I am looking into a B.Ed. in the future; hence the teaching experience was especially significant to me.
In May you were asked to envision how U+ would contribute to your growth. How has your time here contributed to your personal and professional development? Were there any unexpected challenges or benefits?
At the beginning of my term, one of the goals I mentioned to Kevin was about working with high school students, as I was looking into intermediate teaching, which is secondary school teaching. As for the summer camp, I will be supervising the HS Coop projects, and the work planning has started. I believe that this is a very new experience for me as in most educational settings teaching for high school students is limited and managing a groups of high school students is not only a challenge but also an opportunity.
Describe 2-3 projects from your co-op that you’re particularly proud of, and how they have helped you grow academically and/or professionally?
I believe that HR really contributes to personal growth, in the sense of effective and professional communication, as well as the correct judgment of talent acquisition. Moreover, the virtual 1on1 and the Saturday Camps were great classroom and teaching experiences. Additionally, the wider age range gives a larger perspective on the different academic and daily needs of the different age groups. Something significant to me was the Procurement Buyers and Sellers Expo events, as it was different from my regular tasks and very business professional. Seeing the talk and language used in the professional governmental and business setting was a really meaningful learning experience. Furthermore, seeing and talking to some of the representatives from different companies was new and interesting.
