During these past 2 months, what were your major duties and how did they relate to your academic studies?
So far one of my major duties has been to facilitate GPS camp every weekend and planning the materials (slide decks, worksheets, arts and craft supplies) needed for optimal delivery. Because the content I teach is STEAM based, I get to apply my knowledge in STEM in a more enjoyable way at camp! I teach math lessons virtually when I’m not at camp, which has also been a lovely experience. Aside from teaching, I have been preoccupied with creating two STEAM activity books from scratch. This also involves curriculum planning, which has allowed me to push myself by creating appropriate content. While these textbooks are still being developed, I’ve enjoyed integrating graphics and fostering creativity throughout the process.

In May you were asked to envision how U+ would contribute to your growth. How has your time here contributed to your personal and professional development? Were there any unexpected challenges or benefits?
In my May log I mentioned that I wanted to develop my soft skills in teaching. Through GPS camp, I have been improving in that regard as the weeks go by, as I notice I’m becoming more adaptable to sudden triggers in the classroom. I also learned to insert my “teacher voice” when needed and keep the classroom under control when things get out of hand. Back then, I rarely had experience teaching in a classroom as the main focal point, but the past two months I’ve slowly grown to clearly establish my authority as a teacher to create an ideal learning environment.
Describe 2-3 projects from your co-op that you’re particularly proud of, and how they have helped you grow academically and/or professionally?
Firstly, I’m proud of the outcomes of my teaching deliverables so far-both at GPS camp and in the virtual math lessons I’ve conducted through U+. These experiences have contributed significantly to my professional growth, particularly as someone contemplating a career in teaching. Initially focused on high school, my interactions with younger children aged 5-12 at U+ have made me realize I’ve been developing valuable skills for teaching younger grades as well.
Secondly, another project I’d like to mention is my STEAM activity books. Creating these as the sole author has been quite challenging; it required extensive research and integrating age-appropriate graphics and formatting. Despite the challenges, the process has been incredibly rewarding.

Please nominate someone who deserves the employee of the month award and explain why briefly. You can nominate more than one person.
I would like to nominate Christina Wan and Tobin Tang. Their contributions to the whole Flyer situation were significant and they managed the delivery very well despite the time crunch for Summer Camp promotions!
